Location: Ashcroft, BC

Job Status: Full Time Permanent

Compensation: $35.50 per hour (trip rated)

Pension: $4.05/hr 100% paid by Arrow

Drivers can be located anywhere near Kamloops, Ashcroft, Logan Lake, and 100 Mile House

Overview

In Business since 1919 and still growing, Arrow is a leader in bulk commodity hauling, reload operations, freight management, logistics, consulting, and technology with operations throughout Canada and the U.S.

We are looking for Class 1 Drivers to join us and become part of our Arrow family. As a professional driver with Arrow Transportation Systems Inc., based at the Ashcroft Mining Branch, you will haul B-train trailers and operate equipment ranging from tandem to tri-drive trucks. Operations primarily include hauling copper ore from the Mount Polley Mine, as well as road salt and soils.

 Responsibilities

  • Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations
  • Perform pre and post and en route trip inspections on equipment operated, ensuring safety, roadworthiness and regulatory compliance
  • Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, load securement, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weights and dimensions
  • Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics
  • Efficiently maneuver truck and trailer(s) into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned
  • Check mobile equipment (i.e. frontend loaders) to ensure that mechanical and safety equipment is in good working order
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles to the relevant supervisor
  • Report all safety hazards or conditions encountered at load, unload, yard and shop sites
  • Record, Maintain and Check all relevant paperwork (i.e. bill of lading,) and documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate
  • Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers
  • Complete electronic and/or manual logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with the public, customers, and co-workers
  • Assist in loading and unloading of trucks
  • Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure
  • Ensure that material is properly protected from the outdoor elements. Tarping loads may be a requirement
  • Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up
  • Provide feedback to supervisor/dispatch regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems
  • Ensure that all customers, co-workers and the public are dealt with professionally and with respect
  • Train others when required

 You Possess

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Valid Class 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement
  • Super B and mountain driving experience
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Basic understanding of vehicle and trailer maintenance requirements
  • Ability to move up to 100 lbs and lift up to 50 lbs overhead and 75 lbs to shoulder height
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions while maintaining a professional demeanor
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, including reading safety documentation, completing reports, and communicating with dispatch and site personnel
  • Proven ability to drive safely in snow and adverse weather conditions, including tire chaining when required
  • Strong safety mindset with a quality-oriented approach
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment
  • Positive team attitude with a strong work ethic
  • Responsible, accountable, dependable, and able to take direction
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexible, adaptable, and well-organized, with strong task?prioritization skills
  • Computer literate
  • Willingness and ability to participate in cross-training across facility functions

  • Shift work required; weekend availability may be required
