POSITION: Maternity Leave Term- Home Care Aide (HCA)
Locations: Nlaka’pamux Nation, Cooks Ferry Band located in Spences Bridge and Merritt, and Siska Band on Hwy 1, in the Fraser Canyon
Reporting to: Heskw’en’scutxe Health Manager
Hours: 1-year maternity leave position, offering 35 hours per week, with the possibility of extension.
Salary: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour Based on experience
About Heskw’en’scutxe Health Services Society (HHSS): Heskw’en’scutxe Health Services Society (HHSS) provides essential healthcare services to the Cooks Ferry and Siska Band communities. Our organization receives funding from the First Nations Health Authority to offer comprehensive health services to approximately 150 individuals on reserve. With a small but dedicated team working across two health offices, HHSS is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of community members.
The Opportunity: We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Home Care Aide (HCA) to join our team. Under the direction of the Home Community Nurse, the HCA will provide essential home and community health care services, as well as advocacy for community members. This position offers a deeply fulfilling opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the health of those we serve. As part of a close-knit team, you will work alongside Home Community Nurse and a Medical Office Assistant to promote healthy living and provide direct care to clients. In addition, the role will include occasional medical transportation drives, where you will support clients by transporting them to health centres and hospitals, ensuring they receive necessary care when required.
Key Responsibilities: Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Client Care & Support: Assist community members in maintaining their independence while providing support for daily activities. Ensure care is delivered with dignity, respect, and confidentiality.
• Home Visits & Wellness Check-Ins: Conduct regular home visits to assess and address client needs, ensuring consistent and high-quality care.
• Personal Care: Help with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, mouth care, hair care, skin care, and other hygiene needs.
• Household Assistance: Support clients with light housekeeping tasks, meal planning, and preparation to promote a healthy, clean-living environment.
• Health Education & Advocacy: Educate clients and their families on health information, empowering them to make informed decisions regarding care and well-being.
• Case Management Participation: Collaborate with the Home Community Nurse and participate
in case management and family conferences as needed.
• Record Keeping & Reporting: Accurately document service delivery and ensure client records
are securely maintained. Provide reports to the ESDRT as directed.
• Medical Transportation: Occasionally drive clients to local health centres, hospitals, and other
medical facilities for necessary appointments, ensuring their safe transport and timely arrival.
Required Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following qualifications:
• Home Care Aide Certification
• Proven ability to provide compassionate care while respecting client confidentiality and privacy
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, families, and team
members
• Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Good knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams)
• Physically capable of performing all assigned tasks
• Clear Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector)
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract
• Current First Aid CPR-C Certification
Additional Desired Qualifications:
While not required, the following qualifications would be considered an asset:
• Formal training in Crisis Management
• Familiarity with Integrated Health Services
• Commitment to ongoing professional development
• Ability to integrate First Nations knowledge into all aspects of health and well-being
