School District No. 74 (Gold Trail) SCHOOL LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY
VICE-PRINCIPAL –DESERT SANDS COMMUNITY SCHOOL
The Gold Trail School District invites applications for the position of Vice-Principal at Desert Sands Community School with employment to commence August 1, 2025. Desert Sands Community School enrols approximately 244 students in kindergarten through grade 12, of which 61% are of Indigenous ancestry. Desert Sands Community School is located in the Village of Ashcroft which lies on the unceded and traditional territory of the Secwépemc and Nlaka'pamux First Peoples. The school's Action Plan for Learning guides the work of the school.
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
- A minimum of 5 years of exemplary teaching experience;
- Leadership experience with elementary and secondary school programs and curriculum;
- Ability to produce a positive school climate by empowering others through shared decision- making;
- Successful leadership of innovative student achievement initiatives;
- Experience leading and supporting experiential, place-based and inquiry learning;
- Skill in all aspects of supervision for and of learning;
- Effective time and task management and well-developed organizational skills;
- Exceptional ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents and community organizations to enhance student achievement;
- Demonstrated excellent communication, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills;
- Documented commitment to improving school success for Indigenous students;
- Highly successful experience working with Indigenous communities;
- Demonstrated ability to establish welcoming learning environments that create a sense of belonging for all students;
- Practices and philosophy that demonstrate a strong commitment, understanding and appreciation for diversity;
- BC Professional Teaching Certificate;
- Master's Degree, or working toward completion.
The compensation for a Vice-Principal is defined by a regional salary grid and placement on the grid is defined by criteria including education and years of experience. The grid for this position is:
