Job Summary
We are seeking a highly competent and dependable Class 1 Truck Driver to join our operations team for demanding, remote work in harsh mountain environments. This position involves operating gravel trucks in challenging terrain and weather conditions and is best suited for an experienced professional who prioritizes safety, communication, and teamwork. The role includes camp-based living and rotational shift work and requires a strong level of driving proficiency and mechanical awareness.
This is a physically and mentally demanding driving position that operates in remote areas under variable and often harsh conditions. Only candidates with proven experience in these environments should apply.
Location
Applicants ideally will be based out of the North Okanagan, however we are also willing to work with people that live in other areas of BC.
Duties
Safely operate Class 1 gravel trucks in mountainous and remote environments
Drive routinely in harsh weather conditions, including snow, ice, and reduced visibility
Demonstrate high proficiency in chaining up and de-chaining trucks as required
Conduct thorough pre-trip, in-trip, and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment safety and compliance
Secure and manage loads to ensure safe transport over uneven and challenging terrain
Maintain accurate daily logs, inspections, and communication with dispatch and site supervisors
Work cooperatively alongside other drivers and site personnel to ensure efficient operations
Perform minor mechanical troubleshooting and basic repairs when required due to the remote nature of the work
Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and site-specific requirements
Experience & Qualifications
Valid Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract (mandatory)
Minimum 5 years Class 1 driving experience (mandatory)
Minimum 2 years of harsh mountain driving experience (mandatory)
Proven gravel truck driving experience (mandatory)
High level of competence and confidence with chaining up in winter and mountain conditions
Strong understanding of safe driving practices in extreme and variable environments
Mechanical aptitude or basic mechanical skills considered a strong asset
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in remote settings
Strong communication skills and a professional, team-oriented attitude
Work Schedule & Conditions
Camp-based position with rotational shifts
Shift rotations will be either 5 days on / 5 days off or 6 days on / 6 days off
Work is weather dependent and is expected to continue until spring break-up, pause during break-up, and likely resume afterward
Candidates must be comfortable with camp living and extended time away from home
Compensation
Daily rate: $550 – $700 per day, based on experience and qualifications
