Job Summary
VisionQuest Recovery Society is seeking a skilled Head Cook for our 60 bed Logan Lake men’s residential addictions recovery facility. The Head Cook will be responsible for overseeing the kitchen operations, managing food preparation, and ensuring high-quality meals are served in a timely manner. We are also interested in an individual who can pass on their skills to those who are interested in training in food services.

Primary Role: The Head Cook will oversee and carry out all aspects of custodial services, food production and kitchen management.

Qualifications:

  • FoodSafe Level 1 required, FoodSafe Level 2 an asset
  • Red Seal Chef, Apprentice or equivalent experience
  • First Aid Level 1
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience cooking in high volumes,
  • Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, email and attachments
  • Experience with inventory and ordering procedures, and staying within a set budget
  • Experience managing a team required
  • Experience instructing an asset
  • Personal or professional experience with substance use disorder an asset
  • Must pass a criminal record review

  • Must be able to lift, move, push, pull, and carry up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Implement Health and Safety standards and ensure compliance as per Interior Health standards
  • Liaise with Client Care Managers regarding menu, inventory and ordering
  • Implement 4-week rotating menu to reflect Canada Food Guide, healthy choices, and resident dietary requirements
  • Demonstrate competency of all aspects of cooking (i.e., proteins, sauces, starches, vegetables, etc.) for all meal types
  • Manage and train resident volunteers on cooking techniques and safety procedures
  • Supervise kitchen staff and coordinate food preparation activities
  • Collaborate with management to develop new recipes and improve existing dishes

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
